010 FIFA World Cup™McDonald’s Player Escort Matches played at Tiger Turf Arena Gateway.
The Tiger Turf Arena at Gateway was the KZN venue of choice for the McDonald’s Player Escort Programme activations. The Player Escorts, children from countries such as Germany, Japan, Latin America and South Africa, played in soccer matches which was covered by International and local press and TV crews.
The children were treated like ‘the’ professionals, their kit was set out in the change rooms, they stood in lines while the national anthems were played and then they showed their soccer skills during the games as many supporters, including their parents, cheered them on. The KZN invitational Showbol team, managed by Peter Hooper from Tiger Turf, competed at the Monte Casino SHOWBOL launch event held on the 21st May 2010. The team was undefeated in all their matches and this bodes well for the upcoming Pro Series which will start in September 2010 - the beginning of the professional 6 a side soccer era. Tiger Turf Arena Gateway has been nominated as an official KZN venue for Showbol and will accommodate the KZN North Coast Franchise team.
Located on the rooftop of Gateway Theatre of Shopping the Tiger Turf Arena is a multi-faceted sporting arena designed to serve all communities within our society. Available to the people of KZN for social and corporate sport as well as professional soccer and tag rugby leagues, Africa’s first ever rooftop sporting arena, will also be used by the SA Soccer Legends and Showbol for development clinics.
The facility offers:
· 3 X World Class Synthetic Turf pitches (size per field: 42meter by 21 meter),
· a clubhouse with bar & restaurant facilities,
· DSTV facilities to watch sport,
· men’s & ladies change rooms with showers & toilets.
Situated in a safe environment with plenty of secure parking, the facility is managed by qualified sport staff and experienced referees, it is our mission to ensure that your sport event, whether you participate socially or competitively in leagues or corporate team building events or parties, will be the ultimate sport experience! We cater for kids, ladies, families, professionals – EVERYONE!
League Rates & Social play:
· Social play R50 per player per hour or R400 per field per hour for social games.
· League play R300 per match for League
· Winner keeps the field R250 for the whole day, only on dedicated dates as advertised.

Rules: Our 6 a side rules of play are governed by the International 6 a side Showbol Rules – these rules are available on our website.
· We have experienced referees for league games who have been trained by Showbol Africa. Please respect them and you will enjoy a great game of soccer.
· Players who are aggressive and abusive will be warned and if required barred from the venue. No foul play or verbal abuse will be tolerated. Teams that do not pitch up for games will be fined and if required expelled from the league.
· No alcohol is allowed to be brought onto the premises, we have a bar facility available.
· Play in normal soccer boots, indoor boots or gym shoes, no metal studs.
· No food is allowed to be brought onto the premises, we have a kitchen / restaurant that sells pizzas, burgers, braai packs etc No glasses or glass bottles allowed.
· No high heels or shoes that may cause damage to the turf.
· No smoking.
· Liability notice. Tiger Turf Arena, PH Sports and Recreation, SA Rugby Legends, Old Mutual Properties and all staff and members associated cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage which may occur when any person participates at the Tiger Turf Arena Gateway.
· Discounts could be negotiated based on frequent participation and through the introduction of new participants and bringing additional teams to participate.
